Jean Marie “Jeanne” Sclavi, (90), Lake Nebagamon, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center with her family at bedside. She was born on November 22, 1925 in Superior Wisconsin to John and Emma “Marie” (Grimstad) Legard.
She was employed at the Hammond Steakhouse for many years prior to her retirement. Jeanne and her husband, Gino, had previously owned and operated Gino’s Pizza in the Duluth/Superior area.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Bethel Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway.
Jeanne enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe with her family. Whenever the opportunity arose, she enjoyed her casino visits with her daughter and son-in-law, son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family and her many dogs she had throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jean “Gino”, her son Richard “Rick”, her son-in-law Eugene “Gene” Nordquist, an infant daughter, Linda Marie and her parents John and Marie Legard, her brother Arnold “Arnie” Legard and his wife, Jo, and her sister Gertrude “Trudy” Peterson and her husband, Pete.
Jeanne is survived by two daughters, Sandra Nordquist of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Two Rivers WI; Brenda (Joel) Granquist of Lake Nebagamon, WI; one son, Mark Sclavi of Barnes, WI; two daughters-in-law, Kate Sclavi of Lake Nebagamon, WI and Josie Hoem of Superior WI; and seven grandchildren, Pamela (Jerry) Moes, Lisa (John Kaufman) Nordquist, Jennifer (Marc) Makela, Joe (Amanda Olson) Sclavi, Anthony (Ineke) Sclavi, Michael Sclavi, Daniel (Kristin) Sclavi; nine great-grandchildren, Halie and Jake Makela, Carmen and Ella Sclavi, Jared, Miranda, Logan and Lukas Moes, and Rocco Sclavi, and many nieces and nephews.
She will always be remembered with great love from all of her family.
Per Jeanne’s wishes, no service will be held. A private Celebration of Life dinner was held at Sclavi’s restaurant per her wishes.
Jeanne’s family would like to express their gratitude to the caring and supportive staff at Middle River Health and Rehab for all of the kindness they showed Jeanne and her family throughout her stay.
If desired, the family requests memorials are sent to the Douglas County Humane Society because Jeanne loved her dogs.
