Jean M. Mertes

Jean M. Mertes, 57, South Range resident, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at her residence.

She was born on October 5, 1954 to Joseph and Katherine (Peacock) Graskey.

Jean worked as an Environment Service worker for the Bayshore Nursing Home for many years.

She married Dale Mertes on April 17, 1993 and they recently celebrated eighteen years of marriage.

Jean was a member of the Superior Moose Lodge #606.
She enjoyed bowling, her pets and going to the beach with her husband and dog, four-wheeling and horseshoes. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Jessie Mertes, South Range, WI; three sisters, Betty Strak, of FL, Joan (Jim) Swaab, of IA and Janie Cahill of FL and her father-in-law, Dave Mertes, South Range, WI.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Patty and Sherrie Remington, Mary Kirkwood and Julie Zawin and brothers, Tom and Robert Graskey.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:30 AM funeral service with Rev. Mark Holmes of Darrow Road Wesleyan Church officiating.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Superior.

Pallbearers for the service will be Rusty Burkhart, David McConnell, Bobby Bordeau and Steve Kastern.
