Jerold W. Johnson

Jerold “Jerry” W. Johnson, 79, longtime Superior resident, died peacefully, Sunday, August 15, 2021, at New Perspectives Senior Living in Barnum, MN. He was born in Sheboygan, WI, October 9, 1941, the son of Harold and Lucille (Myette) Johnson.

He served his country honorably in the United States Navy.

Jerry graduated high school and went on to further his education, earning his master’s in education degrees in both chemistry and culinary arts.

He worked in research and development at Jeno’s and Kemps for many years. He later retired from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in facilities management and continued to work as a custodian at Zion Lutheran Church in retirement.

Jerry was a TKE Fraternity member and was a former member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior.

He loved the Green Bay Packers and held a special place in his heart for animals, especially his cat, Abby. Animals were an important part of his life, and he was a longtime advocate for Animal Allies. Above all, Jerold was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be dearly missed by all!

He is survived by his daughter, Toni (Bob) Hanson, Superior, WI; grandchildren, Brenden (Ashley) Hanson, Brady (Taylor) Hanson, and Daisharay Carlson; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Noah Johnson, and Michael, Daniel, Phoenix Hanson; brothers, Harold “Skip” Johnson, Rapid City, SD, and Ted Yox, Amnicon Township, WI; sisters, Judith Hadley, Superior, WI, Pam (John) Peterson, South Range, WI, and Julie (Don) Walberg, Superior, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Johnson; and infant grandson, Dustin.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Jerry’s amazing nurses, Stephanie, and Natasha, with Moments Hospice, and to his special and much-loved caregivers at New Perspectives, Lacey, Crystal, and Danielle.

A Time of Remembrance will be held from 5-7:00 PM, Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 ^th Street, Superior, WI, with a service to be held at 5:00 PM offered by Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci.
