Joan "Jay" Dhooge

Joan S. “Jay” Dhooge, 99, died Tuesday, April 03, 2012 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN.

She was born on March 5, 1913 in Superior to Jules and Emma (Letz) Bleyenberg and was a lifelong Superior resident.

Jay was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, its Rug Ladies and the Ladies Belgian Club Auxiliary.

Jay will always be remembered as a person with a positive attitude, and ear to listen and loving kind word to offer. Throughout her life, she took great pride in her garden and making her home inviting for family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn (William) Dens, Barnum, MN, Janet (Larry) Ledin, Superior; two sons, Jerry (Kay) Dhooge, Solon Springs, WI, Dan (Mary) Dhooge, Lake Gogebic, MI; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two nieces and three nephews. She is further survived by close neighbors and friends including Jeff Johnson and his late wife Mary.

Jay was preceded in death by her husband Arthur “Art” Dhooge in 2004; her parents; two sisters, Mary “Sis” Bleyenberg and Clementine Meyst and one brother, Francis Bleyenberg.

Jay’s family sends a special thank you to the staff of Stardusk Assisted Living, Solvay Hospice House, Arlene Gunderson of Indianhead Home Health Care and Randi of Home Instead, who all gave loving care her last days.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and continue until the 11:00 AM
A Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Don Kania as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Jay’s grandchildren.
