Joan Marie Langseth, 82, longtime Lake Nebagamon resident, formerly of Duluth, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth accompanied by her children and the caring staff of the Solvay Hospice House.
She was born in Duluth, MN on July 12, 1933 to Hjalmer and Myrtle (Olson) Peterson.
She graduated from Stanbrook Hall in Duluth, attended Gustavus Adolphus, where she was crowned freshman queen and then went on to receive a degree from the University of Minnesota – Minneapolis.
Joan married Rodney Langseth on August 11, 1956 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away.
She was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon, a member of the Community Bible Study, Lakeside Garden Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Joan served in leadership roles with the P.E.O., Duluth Medical Auxiliary and Lakeshore Lutheran Home.
Her passions were quilting, gardening and spending quiet times enjoying nature.
Family, friends and faith were very important to Joan as well as her Swedish heritage.
Joan’s loving and caring nature was greatly appreciated by her family as well as the greater community. Joan is lovingly remembered and will greatly missed.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Martha (Steven) Jorgensen, Duluth, Laura (Tim) Langseth, Duluth, one son, Peter (Rungthip) Langseth, St. Joseph, MN; seven grandchildren, John (Abby) Jorgensen, Linnea (Mike) Benike, Carin (Michael) Jorgensen, Matthew Jorgensen, Rodney Langseth, Anthony (Erin) Vecchi and Joseph Vecchi; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Isaac and Nathan; one brother, Paul (Joany) Peterson, Duluth, two sisters-in-law, Muriel Langseth, Jody Langseth and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Virginia Peterson.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 12, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon, with Pastor Darrell Kyle, officiating.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group in Lake Nebagamon or the Immogene McGrath Memorial Library in Lake Nebagamon.
