Joan M. Stein

Joan Marie Stein, 80, lifelong Superior resident died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa while on vacation visiting her special friends, Jane and Al Christopherson.

She was born in Superior on July 29, 1943, the daughter of Arthur and Marie (Eggert) Carlson Sr. and graduated from Superior Senior High School.

Joan was united in marriage to Bernard Stein, and they celebrated twenty-five years of marriage.

Joan enjoyed her time as a loving homemaker and dedicated her years to raising her children. When her sons were grown, Joan joined her husband at his practice where she worked as the office manager at Dr. B.E. Stein Family Dentist in Superior for many years before retirement.

Over the years she enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Red Lake, hunting with her son, Mike, and traveling with her daughter, Kathy.

Joan’s greatest joy was her family! She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and will always be remembered for her caring nature. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Joan will be dearly missed!

She is survived by her husband, Bernard “Bernie” Stein, Superior, WI; sons, Steve (Lynne) Edwards, Mike (Rae Ann) Edwards, Tyler (Dani) Edwards, all of Superior, WI; daughter, Kathy Stein, Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, John (Lyndsey) Edwards, Paul (Taylor) Edwards, Adam Edwards, Cole Edwards, Brody (Suzanne Warring) Edwards, Carter Edwards, Carsen Edwards, Harper Edwards; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Eliana, Henry, Mia, Luke, Madilynne; sisters, Darlene (Dick) Clemensen, Houston, TX, Linn (Kelly) Magnuson, Knapp, WI, Becky Bamber, Clearwater, FL, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandson, Austin Edwards; brother, Arthur Carlson Jr.; sister, Sue Christianson; brother-in-law, Stephen Bamber; her parents, and her special K9 companion, Tini.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Joan’s nurse, Marnee Wearly, for her kind and compassionate care.

Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, and will continue until the 1:30 PM Memorial Service with Gary Banker officiating.
