Joanne E. (Jody) O’Brien passed away Friday, March 22. The daughter of Fred & Mildred (Wallin) Fonger. Jody lived in Poplar during her early years, after graduating from East High School, she worked at Superior Water Light & Power Co. Jody & William (Bill) O’Brien were united in marriage on July 19, 1952 & celebrated 58 years together before his passing in 2010. They were parents of two daughters, Holly (Anthony) Cross & Kelly (Travis) Lewis, both of Iron River; and two sons, Timothy O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien, both deceased. Bill and Jody were involved in many businesses in Duluth/Superior/Ashland and The O’Brien C Store in Iron River. They lived on Hart Lake for many years. In addition to their daughters, Jody is survived by 2 brothers, Dennis (Kathy) Fonger of Shawano, WI & Michael (Linda) Fonger of Cottage Grove, WI; 4 grandsons, Aaron O’Brien, Nathaniel, Travis & Michael Lewis; 1 granddaughter, Destiny O’Brien; 1 great-granddaughter, Delta Rose & also, her Yorkie, Angel; Jody was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan A. Lahti. Jody was a spitfire & loved to party.
A celebration of her life will be held at Hydes on Buskey Bay, Saturday, May 25 from 1-4:00 PM.
