Joel Laird Accola, 59, of Superior, passed away at home on August 22, 2023. He was born December 10, 1963, son of Launa (Higgins) Riedasch and James Tarro.
Joel graduated from Superior Senior High School in 1982 and from UW-Superior with a bachelor's degree in biology and art. He worked for the Wisconsin DNR and most recently, Amsoil.
Joel was a talented artist working in watercolor and oil and enjoyed playing guitar, woodworking, fishing, and hunting. In his spare time, he could often be found fly fishing on the Brule River. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Joel loved his family very much and is survived by his father, David (Bernie) Accola; stepfather, Bill Riedasch; sisters, Ann Goettl and Sara Maki; stepbrother, Gene Riedasch, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Marian Higgins, Irwin and Anna Accola, Lewis and Jenny Tarro, and Alice Riedasch; mother, Launa; father, James Tarro; stepbrother, Aaron, and nephew, Ryan.
A Celebration of Joel’s Life will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM, on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior with a Service of Remembrance to begin at 5:30.
