John "Bud" Magnuson

John “Bud” Magnuson, 86, Brule, WI resident, died Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. He was born on July 15, 1934 in Superior, WI to Herbert and Signe (Swanson) Magnuson. He was raised on the family farm in Brule and learned the value of hard work.

He attended elementary school in Brule, high school freshman year in Iron River and sophomore year at Northwestern School in Maple and graduated in 1952 from the WI Academy. He attended W.I.T.C. in Superior where his love of woodworking began. He purchased the Lake Nebagamon Cabinet Shop and was a cabinet maker for over fifty-five years retiring three years ago. Bud married Shirlie McKee on June 22, 1957 in Wentworth, WI and they would have celebrated sixty-four years of marriage this year. He continued helping his mother on the farm until 1965.

He was a deacon of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Superior, member of the Brule Lions Club and helped with the annual BBQ event for many years. He enjoyed fall fishing on the Brule River. He liked working in his vegetable garden and tending to his yard. He will continue to help others via his donation of his tissue and eyes. Bud was an avid Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan.

Bud is survived by his wife, Shirlie; son, Jack Magnuson, Lake Nebagamon, WI; daughter, Diann Magnuson, Brule, WI; three grandchildren, Elyse Hurst, Bayfield, WI and Britta and Lita Lind, Brule, WI. He is preceded in death by his brother Kenneth and his parents.

Per Bud’s request, no public services will be held. Burial will be at the family plot in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Brule, WI at a later date.
