John G. “Johnny” Dowd, 66, longtime Superior area resident, currently of New York Ave., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Superior on May 6, 1948 to John “Jack” and Sherle (Brown) Dowd.
Johnny enjoyed traveling with is sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Fae and Tim Gotelaere. He was an avid baseball fan and loved watching the Dodgers and the Brewers. He liked to play Keno, playing one nickel at a time, he loved driving golf carts and being called “Uncle Bear” by his many nieces and nephews.
John loved all animals, especially his canine friend, Yogi Bear and eating his Gramma Brown’s sandwiches. John will also be remembered as an excellent cook.
John is survived two sisters, Bonnie Fae (Tim) Gotelaere, Janie (Doug) Carlson, Las Vegas, NV; three brothers, Bruce “Binky” (Rose Ann) Brown, Superior, Jim Dowd, Las Vegas, NV, Scott (Kelly) Dowd, Sandwich, IL and John was an uncle to 71 nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews; one aunt, Bonnie (Dr. Louis) Cooper, Superior and special phone friend and former brother-in-law, Mike Hansen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry “Buzz” (Gwen) Wiggins; maternal grandparents, Eudora and Lloyd Brown; paternal grandparents, James and Katherine Dowd; three aunts, Janet Fae Brown, Sister Jamesetta Dowd, Marge (Harold) Dowd Levendowski and two uncles, James (Harriett) Dowd and Jerry Brown.
John will be greatly missed by his friend and brother-in-law, Tim Gotelaere.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and will continue until the 2:00 PM Funeral Service on Monday, January 19, 2015 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Chaplain Ron Henely, of Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospice; Salvation Army or the Animal Rescue Federation (A.R.F.)
