John M. Erickson

February 5, 1966 — January 2, 2025

John Michael Erickson, 58, lifelong resident of South Range, WI, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth, MN, with his wife by his side.

He was born in Parkland, WI on February 5, 1966, the son of Emanuel “Elmer” and Shirleyann (Parker) Erickson.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Vinton on October 11, 2008, at the Parkland Town Hall.

John was a pillar in his community and worked for the town of Parkland for 33 years as a heavy machine operator and general laborer. He was the volunteer fire chief for many years. He and his family helped organize and run the Parkland bingo night, which helped fund many projects for the Fire Department in town. Also, he, with his wife by his side, was instrumental in organizing and running the Kendell Nelson Memorial Jr Fire Cadet program. John was a man of many talents, with a heart of gold.

John, also affectionately known as “Papa” was the best man that most of us have ever known. His kindness, his heart, his honesty, his loyalty and yes, even his raunchy jokes, made him a rare jewel, whose shine will be so greatly missed. We love you “old man” forever and always!
Papa John, husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. The man, the legend, our rock. He was one of a kind, the love and compassion he gave us all can never be replaced.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his daughters, Misty (Kenderick), Mandy (Jeremiah), Annie and Tessa; his sons, Joshua, and Jacob (Rachael), 21 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He is also survived by his sisters and brother, Joella (Kevin), Charlie (Cathy), and Betty (Mike), along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Shirleyann and his brother and sisters, “Billy,” Mary and “Peggy.”
