John "Jack" Notenberg

John “Jack” Notenberg, 80, longtime Superior resident, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, MN.

He was born January 20, 1942, in Superior to Rene and Goodrin (Welde) Notenberg.

Jack was a member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, in Superior, for many years. He was also a member of the Moose Club 606. He retired in 2001 from the BNSF Railway where he was an engineer for thirty-eight years.

Jack enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing on Lake Superior. He loved nothing more than being in his deer stand in Iron River, WI and taking trips to Isle Royale.

He is survived by his son Tim (Deborah) Notenberg, Superior; stepson Thomas Waletzko, Superior; stepdaughter Cheryl Waletzko, Duluth; granddaughter Alissa (Ian Johnson) Notenberg; brother-in-law Ken (Joyce) Beyer; and nephews Jeff (Tracy) Beyer and Brian (Tracey) Beyer.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents; first wife Karen Notenberg and his second wife Lee Ann (Dumonsau) Notenberg.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Kandice and Amy and the rest of the staff and Edgewood Vista, in Hermantown, for their wonderful care of Jack.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street in Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Pastor Joel Hueneman officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Superior.
