John E. Maki

John E. Maki, 77, Superior resident, died Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Essentia Health in Superior, WI. He was born on November 23, 1943 in Superior, WI to Eugene and Francelia (Sansted) Maki.

He graduated from Central High School and attended computer classes in Minneapolis. John served his country in the United States Navy and United States Air Force and was a member of the Air Force band. He married Linda Carlton on September 9, 1964 in Warner Robins, GA and celebrated fifty-six years of marriage. John worked for the D.T.A. as a bus driver for many years. He previously was a business manager/administrator for various businesses such as Win-Tec and manager at Quality Welding. He will be remembered as a talented manager/administrator throughout his lifetime.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was the choir director and member of the Board of Directors. He also was a member of the Superior Singers, an Ambassador of Peace for the U.S. Air Force, member of the local band called the Satellites that played various locations in his younger years. He loved sharing his gift of music to whomever he could. He found great joy in both his grandchildren and his gift of music.

John is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Sabrina Maki, Superior and Merissa (Joel) Stone, Foxboro, WI; six grandchildren, Tylar, Logan, Caden, Berkley, Raegan and Rylie; sister, Victoria (Rick) Harding, Grand Rapids, MN; sister-in-law, Doris Maki, Superior, WI and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph Maki.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and continue until the 11:00 AM memorial service with Pastor Sean Koos officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be John’s grandchildren. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong, American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
