John C. Norks

John C. Norks, 91, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on January 19, 1924 in Melrose Park, IL to William J. and Minnie L. (Thiel) Norks.

John joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. John was enroute to Pearl Harbor during bombing and arrived a couple of days later. He was stationed in the South Pacific as a motor mechanic on the fuel tender, the Ballard. After its, decommission, he served on the L.S.T. 888 Tank Carrier for the remainder of his military career.

Following the military he spent many years on the Iron Range where he was employed as an engineer who designed tools for a tool company.

He married Yvonne Lambert on October 6, 2001 and celebrated 14 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by three step-daughters, Heather (Dave) Harper, Crystal, MN, Delcian (Wayne) Larson, Ashland, WI, Vernell (Paul Sangl) Lambert, Eagle River, AK; a special granddaughter, Dawn Scott, Louisiana; several other grandchildren and one brother, Wilber Norks, Aurora, IL.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian; one daughter, Gayle; two sisters, Ruby and Rosemarie and three brothers, Earl, Walter and Ralph.

Per John's request no local services are being held.
