John L. Shaw, 69, lifelong Superior resident, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home. He was born on January 13, 1951 in Superior, WI to John and Catherine (Foldesi) Shaw.
He retired from Walmart after working in the maintenance department for many years. John married Corleen “Corey” Smebak on June 16, 1973 and recently celebrated forty-seven years of marriage.
He was an avid Nascar fan, even attending his first Nascar race last year. As a young man he worked on stock cars with his cousins and spoke of that often. He also loved watching football, and even though he was a lifelong Packers fan, he always made room for the Vikings because he knew how much his daughters loved them. He loved watching WWE with his youngest daughter, and later his granddaughter. He loved Elvis, and anything that involved his movies, documentaries and music. He will be remembered as Uncle Elvis by many, and also by Papa by all his grandkids. One of his favorite things to do was drive around on his golf cart with his wife and dogs. Camping season was also one of his favorite pastimes. He always made his special trips to see his buddies, pals and friends on the weekends. He worked hard and played even harder. His heart belonged to his family and he will always be remembered for that.
John is survived by his wife, Corey; two daughters, Cherra Shaw and Chasity Shaw; nine grandchildren, Crystal (Damon Valade) Belanger, Stephanie, Cody and Dylan Sanda, Tiphanie (Derek) Stromberg, Maxx Shaw, Andrew Sanda, CJ Point and Derek Chapman; four great-grandchildren, Adam, Brooklynn and Ryan Thomas and Teyah Shaw Sanda; two sisters, Mary Lou Miller and Peggy (Gary) Nelson; two sisters-in-law, Doreen (Ed) Heytens and Kristin Smebak; two brothers-in-law, Cordell (Brenda Palm) Smebak and Mark Smebak and his K-9 companions Sassie and Smoke.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Jamie Chapman, sister Patricia Anderson, brothers Mike Page and David Shaw, mother Catherine Shaw and father John Shaw.
A Time of Remembrance will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday, September 14, 2020 at the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 PM with Pastor Scott Brown officiating.
