Josephine M. Naeyaert, 92, longtime Superior resident, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on August 27, 1923 in Jeannette, PA to Joseph and Edith (Caviggia) Ciampa.
Before graduating from high school and attending college in GA, Josephine was employed by the Pennsylvania Rubber Company as an inspector, crawling through the tubes of life rafts for quality control before they were shipped overseas for the military.
She served her country in the United States Army as a nurse during World War II.
Josephine was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Belgium Club Auxiliary, a life member of the D.A.V. and the Red Hat Ladies. She also was one of the senior citizen delegates for “Superior Days” in Madison, WI.
Josephine is survived by one son, Erling “Butch” (Nikki) Naeyaert; four grandsons, Hugh, Ryan and Ian Naeyaert and Jed Moran; five granddaughters, Tammy Davidson, Annemarie Flanigan, Jolie Hagen, Elodee White and Jessica Johnson; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, George and Vincent Ciampa and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Naeyaert in 1989, brother Joseph Ciampa and sister Elizabeth Jusiak.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 4315 E. 3rd Street, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Adam Laski as celebrant.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers for the service will be Josephine’s grandchildren, Hugh, Ian and Ryan Naeyaert, Annemarie Flanigan, Tammy Davidson and Jolie Hagen.
