Joyce D Zinmer

Joyce “Sis” D. Zinmer, 73, of Superior, WI passed away January 14, 2026, at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born to Irvin and Beverly (Urban) Zinmer on July 18, 1952.

Joyce grew up in Superior and attended Ericsson Elementary, Central Junior High and Superior High School. She lived in many places throughout her lifetime, including Colorado, California and most recently Rice Lake, WI. Yet she always found her way back home to the shores of Lake Superior.

She was a hard worker, many of the positions she held for employment were in the service industry, often as a team leader. Later in life she worked for small businesses where her quick and sassy wit brought her close to employers and customers alike.

She loved the sunshine and freedom of traveling. She would often drive the country roads searching for abandoned buildings, admiring the old farm steads and encouraging her son Joe’s photography along the way. Her nieces and nephews will always remember her as the “fun aunt”, turning anything into an adventure, cracking jokes and reminding them to not take anything too seriously. She created a lasting impression on everyone she met and will be remembered for her carefree attitude, sense of humor and always having an honest opinion to share.

She will be missed more than she believed.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Luke Knuuttila and Joe Zinmer, and many family members, and her best friend Pam. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Dennis Zinmer, grandson Austin Knuuttila and niece Allissa Penney.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
