Judith M. Johnson, 71, longtime Superior area resident, passed away, unexpectedly, on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Encompass Healthcare and Assisted Living.

She was born on June 6, 1943 in Superior to Joseph and Mamie (Benson) Hilger.

Judy had been employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Chaffey Nursing Home and most recently had been employed with Dove Home Health Care.

She was a member of the former Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church for many years. She loved cooking, doing crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and animals, especially her three cats.

Judy will always be remembered for her pleasant personality and continuous smile. She always loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Pete) Weidner, Micanopy, FL; four sons, Mike Maki, Poplar, WI, Craig (Heidi) Maki, South Range, WI, Chris Maki, Superior, WI, Joey Johnson, Duluth, MN; nine grandchildren, Courtney, Jesse, Michael, Hailey, Zachary, Mason, Nathan, Jade and Alexa and two brothers, Thomas (Judith) Hilger, Superior and Don (Axie) Hilger, Tennessee.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Mike Hilger; her former husband and the father of three of her sons and her daughter, James Maki on September 11, 2011.

Visitation will begin at 12 :00 Noon and continue until the 1:00 PM Funeral Service on Friday, September 19, 2014 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with Pastor Will Mowchan, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Chris Maki, Craig Maki, Joey Johnson, Michelle Weidner, Mason Maki, Nathan Maki, Jade Maki and Alexa Johnson.
