Judith “Judie” L. Strandberg, 79, of Superior, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Bayshore Residence in Duluth, MN.
Judie was born in Lincoln, NE, on November 25, 1942, the daughter of Orlin and Alice (Riley) Nye. Her family moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI, where Judie graduated in 1960 from Sevastopol High School. In December 1960, Judie was involved in a car accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down, but she would never let her injuries get in the way of her happiness.
After another family move to Antigo, WI, Judie met her soon-to-be husband, Dave Strandberg, while working at WATK Radio. Judie and Dave were united in marriage on September 27, 1969, in Duluth, MN. The happy couple were soon to celebrate fifty-three years of marriage.
Judie served as a secretary at the former First Presbyterian Church in Superior and spent several years teaching craft classes at WITC. Judie was also an after-school Latchkey teacher at Great Lakes Elementary school. As she always loved to be active in the community, Judie became a leading member of the Mayor's Commission on Disabilities in 1981, where she proudly served for over 30 years.
Judie was friendly and outgoing and was quick to make friends with everyone she met. Judie especially enjoyed her years as a loving and devoted, mother, wife, and homemaker. She loved spending time with family, her sisters, and her grandkids.
Judie is survived by her beloved husband, David Strandberg, Superior, WI; sons, Jason (Cathy) Strandberg, Nashville, TN, and Jeremy Strandberg, Superior, WI; grandchildren, Ally and Carter Strandberg; sisters, Sue (Jerry) Brauer, Saxon, WI, Lynn Nye, Hudson, WI, Lora Hartwig, Sierra Vista, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rea (Denny) Norrell, and nephew Lee Gorder.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5 th Street in Superior, and will continue until the 2:00 PM Memorial Service with Pastor Joel Huenemann of United Presbyterian Church officiating.
Judie’s grandchildren, Ally and Carter Strandberg will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
