Judith Mae TaBelle, 85, of Superior, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Twin Ports Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior, WI.
She was born in Ashland, WI on May 18, 1938, the daughter of John Moran and Pearl (Williams) DeGiacinto.
She graduated from Columbia High School in Iron River, WI, in the class of 1956. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, earning her bachelor’s degree in education. She worked for the Superior School District as an elementary teacher until her retirement from Pattison School after over 30 years of service.
Judy married the love of her life Jerome “Jerry” TaBelle on June 24, 1961, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Iron River. They spent fifty-four wonderful years together before his passing in 2015. They enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, stock car racing, accordion music at the Elks and Moose Clubs, dining at Julie’s Restaurant with their wonderful staff and gatherings with family and friends.
She is survived by her sisters Kathy (Jim) Darwin, Monona WI, Linda Gustafson, Port Wing, and Melanie (Scott) Ogren, Iron River; sisters-in-law Peggy Lavin and Joy TaBelle; and many nieces and nephews.
Judith cherished her nieces and nephews and enjoyed the time they spent together. She will be remembered for her many colorful hats and adornments, her sweet pickles, her love of reading, and goodie bags and cookie bars for all of the family each holiday. Judy adored her cats through the years: Satan, Pogo, Reba, and Rebel.
She served her community through memberships in the American Legion Auxiliary, Superior Moose 66, and Superior Elks 403. Judy felt such camaraderie and goodwill with the wonderful ladies in the Red Hat Society.
Judy is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jerome, parents, stepfather Albo DeGiacinto, brothers-in-law Robert Gustafson, Allan “Zeke” TaBelle, and Larry Lavin.
Immense gratitude to Judy’s nieces Christie Gustafson and Carrie Zupke who took exceptional care of her in her later years. Special thanks to the very caring staff at New Perspectives and Twin Ports Health Center who took such good care of Judy these past few years, especially Shelly Banks RN and the ACU staff and Kathleen Specht, Watty, and staff, you all go above and beyond, and we have sincere appreciation for you all.
