Julia A. Giauque

July 13, 1911 — February 15, 2010

Julia A. Giauque, 98, former resident of Superior, WI died Monday, February 15, 2010 at a Burnsville, MN nursing home. Julia was a longtime past resident of Superior.

She was born July 13, 1911 in Ironwood, MI, the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Galik) Mayersak.

The Mayersak family moved to Moquah, WI and farmed for 10 years until 1923 when they finally settled in Superior, WI.
She was a past member of the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Julia married William Giauque in Chicago, IL on October 9, 1940. Julia and William worked for over 24 years at the Palmer House in Chicago, before retiring back to Superior, WI in 1964.


William preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1969.
She also was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Andrew, Frank and Joseph, and sisters, Kathryn Olin, Mary Pavlin, Ann Cismoski and Betty Glenn.

Julia is survived by nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her great niece, Jamie Cooper-Thomas, who took care of her needs in her final years.

Julia will be remembered for being a happy, yet spunky lady that loved her family.

A private family graveside service was held at Calvary Cemetery, Superior with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church officiating.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior assisted the family with arrangements.
