Julie Ann (Provost) Smith, 62, of Centreville, VA passed away peacefully at her home on April 7th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Julie was born to Ronald and Janet (White) Provost on May 21st, 1958, in Superior WI. She graduated from Northwestern High School in Maple WI where she was homecoming queen. Julie went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Superior where she met the love of her life, Arthur (Don) Smith. They were united in marriage on June 23rd, 1979, at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior WI. Together they forged full steam ahead and created a beautiful life and successful careers that took them all over the country. But Julie always said that her greatest achievement was the births of their two daughters. She loved being a mother and always felt fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home mom until the girls were old enough to attend school. It was at that point that Julie completed her education and started on a career as a federal government employee with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA). She retired in July 2020 as the Chief of Inspections for VBA’s Public Contact Teams.
Family was everything to Julie. She loved nothing better than planning and preparing a holiday buffet and making everything special for the family she so dearly loved. Julie was extremely intelligent, and it showed in her great sense of humor. Her quick wit was legendary.
She loved animals and had a special place in her heart for the beloved Siamese cats and peach faced parrot and cockatiel birds she cared for during her lifetime. She had a special gift and was known in the family as “The Bird Whisperer''. She also enjoyed gardening and loved to plant and display flowers on her front porch.
Julie was a beautiful example of a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her passing has left a void in our lives and our hearts. She will be loved and missed always.
Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Ronald and Janet Provost and sister, Catherine Rose.
Julie is survived by her husband of 41 years, Arthur (Don) Smith, her two children, Nicole (Jon) Smith and Emilie (Chris) Elliott, two grandsons, Brayden and Camden (Elliott), four sisters, Mary (Robert) Sutherland, Jane (Mike) Rapaich, Clarice (Tom) Peterson and Barb (Paul) Susienka, and two brothers, Gerald Provost and Peter (Nam) Provost and numerous Aunts and Uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to an animal shelter or bird sanctuary of your choosing.
