Katherine "Kate" Anecki

Katherine “Kate” Anecki, 90, a lifelong Superior resident, of Stardusk House, formerly of Wisconsin Avenue, died Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth.

She was born on January 8, 1920 in Superior, WI to James and Jennie (Bailie) Sutherland.

She was a 1937 graduate of the former Central High School.
Kate was employed as a clerk for the former Roth Brothers Department Store and East End Hardware for many years.
She married Edward Anecki on January 20, 1941 in Bessemer, MI and celebrated sixty-one years of marriage before his passing on December 31, 2002.

She was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court #1190. She also was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and belonged to an ice skating group.

Kate enjoyed socializing and talking to people at all social outings. She was an excellent ice skater even in her 70’s. She enjoyed rides in the country, dancing, music and camping.

Kate is survived by her son, Dean (Jill) Anecki, Sheboygan, WI; sister, Ann Sullivan, Superior, WI and four grandchildren, Bridget (Tom) Bataglia, Eagan, MN, Paul (Susan) Anecki and Christian Anecki, both of St. Paul, MN and Marisa Hoogenakker, Duluth, MN.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward and brothers, James and Dan Sutherland.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior with a Catholic Daughters Rosary to be held at 10:30 AM. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
Pallbearers for the service will be Lawrence Lehto, Jim Sutherland, Paul and Christian Anecki, Paul Kulig and David Bobholz.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Katherine’s name to the American Cancer Society.
