Kathlyn M. VanVynckt, 87, lifelong Superior resident, died Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Cedar Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care in Superior, WI. She was born on September 3, 1928 in Superior, WI to Charles and Fannie (Daly) Heirman.
She graduated from the former East High School in 1947.
Kathlyn married George Van Vynckt on February 21, 1948 and they celebrated sixty one years of marriage before his passing in 2010.
Kathlyn worked at St. Joseph’s, the former St. Mary’s and Essentia Health St. Mary’s Hospitals for many years.
She was a lifelong member of the St. Anthony Parish and a member of the Belgium Club Auxiliary. She belonged to a weekly card club for years and a knitting club for 60+ years.
Her favorite things to do were volunteering at Essentia Health in Superior and help organize her East High School Reunion held yearly at Barkers Island. She loved playing cribbage with anyone, bus trips with her girlfriends and spending time in AZ while she was still able.
Kathlyn is survived by three daughters, Linda (Dennis) Huber, Chetek, WI, Patty VanVynckt, New Richmond, WI and Susan (Al) Chesky, Superior, WI; two sons, Gerald (Diane) VanVynckt and Joseph (Sue) VanVynckt, both of Superior, WI; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; one sister, Charleen (Dale) O’Brien, Superior, WI.
She is preceded in death by her husband George, parents, sisters Jean Myers and Marie Marjala.
Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church and continue until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Superior.
Pallbearers for the service will be Kathlyn’s grandchildren, Tricia, Kacy, Monica, Justin, Kyle, Nikki, Lindsay, Joseph, Ryan and Alphonse.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Kathlyn’s name to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to Cedar Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care.
