Kenny was born August, 23, 1942 in Superior, WI to Raymond and Laimi Thomson. He graduated from Superior East High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandy (Retzer) on June 20, 1964, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2014.

Kenny attended the University of Wisconsin-Superior and earned a degree in Secondary Education, and eventually a Masters Degree in counseling. Kenny had a strong work ethic that started at a young age. He grew up working on local dairy farms and loved to recall his days of working the tugboats to put himself through college. Kenny taught Junior High English and Literature for the Duluth, MN School District for many years until his retirement. Kenny is best known as the owner of The Shamrock Bar & Pizza. Kenny always fondly remembered living and working in South Range on local dairy farms and never stopped trying to convince Sandy to give it all up and move back to the farm.

Kenny's family & friends will always remember him as a generous, hardworking, loving man. He was a devoted son, loving husband, proud father, amazing grandfather, and loyal friend who loved to spend time with his family and boast about his children and grandchildren. He was an active and dedicated member of St. Alban's Church where he acted as Eucharistic Minister and Junior and Senior Warden.

Kenny & Sandy have a close circle of friends that they loved to play poker, bridge, and cribbage with, and that they entertained and traveled with. He was a revered member of their Gourmet Dining Club. Dodd and Brian will always remember him as the ultimate hockey dad; never missing a practice or game, as their favorite hunting and fishing partner, and as their biggest supporter. Grandpa Kenny was very loved by his grandchildren and will be missed at trips to the cabin, sporting events, and dance recitals.

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Superior. There will be a visitation from 9:00-11:00am followed by an 11:00am service. Father Steven Burns will officiate the ceremony.
