Kenneth O. Peterson

May 16, 1941 — December 26, 2024

Kenneth "Ken" 0. Peterson 83 of South Range, WI passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2024.

Ken was born on May 16, 1941, to Harley Dean and Virginia (June) Peterson in Stillwater MN and the family was later joined by sister Sharon. The family moved to Poplar WI where Ken grew up and attended Northwestern School. Ken was granted a special license to drive at age 12 in order to help his family.

He started working at an early age on neighboring farms and later became an over-the-road truck driver. He retired from driving at age 80 from H&P Express, Askov MN, where he had been employed for 10 years, with over 4 million miles logged accident and ticket free.

Ken married Laura Sandman, and three boys were born Gary, Randy, and Brad.

Ken married Dawnette on June 4, 1994, and this past summer they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. They made their home in South Range, where they shared a love of horses, cows, goats and numerous other critters and projects. They also drove trucks together at the beginning of their relationship.

Ken loved to watch "old" westerns; he was an avid John Wayne fan. He also loved telling stories of farming, trucking and all his experiences to all who listen.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Dawnette of South Range; sons Gary (Kathy) of Superior, Randy (Stephanie) of South Range and Brad (Angel) of South Range; special granddaughter Meriah Galatowitcsch of Cumberland, WI who was a big part of his life in her early years; special nephew Cody Ploszay of Barron WI who shared Uncle Ken's love of trucking and farming; sister Sharon (Jerry) Colton of Poplar; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends. Ken will be very deeply missed to all those who knew him.

Ken's wish was not to have a Funeral or Celebration of Life, but to have one big "hurrah" as he called it for his birthday, which will be held privately and at a later date.

The Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements. To leave a condolence or sign the guestbook, please visit www.lenroot-maetzold.com.
