Kurt Wermter, 90, South Range, WI, died Monday, October 11, 2010 in his residence. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Cass County, MN to Fred and Ann (Zugschwert) Wermter. Kurt had lived in the Town of Hawthorne since the fall of 1943.
Kurt had worked as a boilermaker/welder all of his life. He had numerous jobs around the Head of the Lakes building oil tanks and ships. He worked many winters at the Frasier Shipyard in Superior.
He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, planting trees and watching them grow.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Boiler Maker’s Union #117.
Kurt is survived by a special friend, Elaine Miller, South Range and her wonderful family; two sons, Gary Wermter and Dale (Christie) Wermter, both of South Range, WI; two grandsons, Robert and Waylon Wermter, both of South Range; and two sisters, Mildred Olson, Superior, Marlene (Frank) Pollock, South Range, WI and numerous nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, William “Willie” Stoeckel; his parents; three brothers, Alfred, Herbert and Howard Wermter and two sisters, Ethel Leving and Geraldine Sullivan.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Christ Lutheran Church, Superior, with Pastor David Schoessow, officiating.
Burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, WI.
Pallbearers for the service will be George Pettingill, Lenny Brunette, Gus Hallberg, Robert and Waylon Wermter and Frank Pollock.
