LaMont “Mont” Bert Ruppert, 75, of South Range, WI, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in his home on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He was born November 28, 1948, in Washurn, WI to Elmer and Pearl Ruppert and grew up in Bayfield, WI.
His special interests were sports, especially baseball and football. His niece and nephew, Rhonda Avila and Jason Ruppert enjoyed going with him to the beach and Twins games and lovingly referred to him as “The Fun Uncle”!
Mont also enjoyed race car driving and collecting baseball cards. He was a pro with crossword puzzles and could identify many different types of birds.
Mont graduated from Superior State University with a 4.0 GPA and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
Early on, Mont drove truck for Bodin’s Fishery delivering fish, and later worked for Buchanan’s Exterminating for three years before he began working as a longshoreman in Duluth, MN. Mont worked as a longshoreman for nearly forty years and served as Secretary/Treasurer for the union for about ten years, right up to the day he died.
Along with various other jobs, Mont also worked for his older brother, Doug Ruppert on construction jobs for about forty-five years.
Mont was known for debating politics and for frequenting the Kitch Restaurant (Kitchen) in Superior daily.
Mont was witty and really loved reading and telling funny stories to his nieces and nephews. He always looked forward to the Fourth of July and family picnics.
Mont is survived by and will be dearly missed by his brother, Douglas E. (Karen) Ruppert; nieces, Rhonda (Avila) Ruppert, Karmen Shmitt, Persephone Phillippi, Adalyn Ruppert, Thea Ruppert, and Charlene McMullan; nephews, Jason Ruppert, Andy Shmitt, and Ezra Ruppert, and sister-in-law, Carol Weiche.
He is preceded in death by parents; brothers, Chet Weiche, Ted Ruppert; sisters, June Wirth, Luella (Prentice) Ruppert, Leolla (Sharlow) Ruppert, and niece, Alanna (Pulley) Ruppert.
Per Mont’s request, no public services will be held.
