Larry G. Luostari, 87, resident of Maple, WI, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN, surrounded by his family.
Larry was born in Superior, WI on December 28, 1937, the son of Gust and Mable (Pearson) Luostari.
Growing up in the Maple area, Larry graduated from Northwestern High School in the class of 1956. He then spent his life working on the family farm taking over operations at the young age of thirteen, after the passing of his father.
He married the love of his life, Patricia Killoren, on August 13, 1960. They recently celebrated sixty-four wonderful years together before his passing.
Larry was very well known in his community. He was a longtime member of the Brule Presbyterian Church, Chairman of the Town of Cloverland for over 50 years, served on the Midland Cooperative Services Board, the board of the Maple Co-Op, and the board of the Maple Telephone Cooperative. He was also a part of the Amnicon Farmers Union, a Douglas County 4-H leader, and a proud FFA supporter. He served on various Douglas County committees and as a delegate for Superior Days for over 20 years. Another passion of his was supporting youth activities and sports in his community.
Larry leaves an empty space in many peoples’ lives and will be forever missed by his beloved wife, Pat Luostari; children Scott (Vicki) Luostari, Poplar, WI, Mark (Julie) Luostari, Prescott, WI, Buffy (Ramon Achucarro) Luostari, Bilbao Spain, and Tricia (Tony) Garland, Poplar, WI; grandchildren Scott (Casey) Luostari, Jeff (Erin) Luostari, David Roth, Christopher Luostari, Dan Roth, Matthew (Megan) Luostari, Meghan Roth, Yuri Achucarro, Sasha Achucarro, Nikita Achucarro, Sara Garland, and Kevin Garland; ten great-grandchildren; sister Margaret (Robert) Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Larry also lives on in the many young people that he and Pat welcomed into their home, including AFS students from more than 20 countries, as well as special young adults from their local community.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Ruth Janke.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Peace Lutheran Church, 9523 US-2 in Poplar, WI, and will continue until the Memorial Service at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Donna Rutten officiating. Following the service there will be a luncheon served at the Amnicon Town Hall, 8985 US-2 Poplar, WI
