Larry S. Swanson

Larry “Scott” Swanson, 75, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on August 11, 2024, in Superior, WI. He was born the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Carlson) Swanson on October 10, 1948, in Duluth, MN.

He graduated from Superior Senior High School, class of ’66 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in computer programming from University of Wisconsin-Superior. Scott was employed for many years as a Programmer Analyst and later a Dispatcher with Minnesota Power. After retirement he worked for Securitas at the Superior Refinery as a security guard.

On March 9, 1974, he married Christine Mackall, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Scott was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir. He also had served as church council president. He volunteered at Essentia Health in the orthopedic department. Scott was also a ham radio operator and a member of the American Radio Relay League.

He loved to play fantasy football. All Wisconsin sports teams caught his attention, but the Green Bay Packers was his favorite team to watch and discuss. He enjoyed gardening and vacationing in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. He enjoyed spending time with those at deer camp and looked forward to the annual “Old Man’s Dinner.”  Camping at Swanson’s Campground with family and the “Circle of Friends” for over 40 years held a special place in his heart.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Chris; daughters, Stacey (Jamie) Kuesel, Woodinville, WA; Beth (Pete) Conley, South Range, WI; and Nicole (Eric Jones) Swanson, Superior, WI; grandchildren: Kylie Kuesel, Kaden Kuesel, Ashlyn Kuesel, Emersyn Conley, and Kaelyn Conley.

He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Hugo Eklund.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street in Superior, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tanner Howard officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery in Superior.
