Laura E. Jensen

Laura E. Jensen, 86, lifelong Superior resident, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at her home.

She was born on January 4, 1925 in Superior, WI to Carl and Matilda (Anderson) Matson.

Laura graduated from high school and at the age of 19 was a welder at the Globe Shipyards during World War II.

She married Lowell Jensen on April 27, 1944 in Superior, WI and recently celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage.

She was a member of The Salvation Army. She loved to travel in her younger years, enjoyed camping, gardening and was a great cook. Her family meant the most to her.

Laura is survived by her husband, Lowell; children, Sandy (Doug) Ustice, Superior, WI, Lowell “Butch” (Frances) Jensen, Mountain Iron, MN, Leo (Carol) Jensen, Superior, WI, Susan Gerber (Larry Nehring), Babbitt, MN and Dawn Jensen (Brian Stelmaszewski), Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Tracy, Margaret, Matthew, Sarah, Christopher, Adam, Brian, Robin, Samantha, Tesa and Jolynn, many great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Beth and Elvera and a granddaughter, Amy Gerber.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at The Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Avenue, Superior with Major Rosemary Matson officiating.

Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Laura’s name to The Salvation Army.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
