Lavina E. Maki, 78, longtime Superior resident, died Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.
She was born on December 14, 1934 in Little Falls, MN to Walfred and Elsie (Anderson) Johnson.
Lavina worked at The Kitchen Restaurant as a kitchen worker for many years.
She was a member of the Jack Pine Riders Motorcycle Group and Superior Moose Lodge.
Lavina loved her flowers and her Christmas decorations and she won many awards for her Christmas lighting display. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Her family will miss her “annual family barbeque” that she said she was only doing once but she did it for fourteen years.
Lavina is survived by her son, Don (Pat) Johnson, Duluth, MN; three granddaughters, Melissa (Nick) Blanch, Bloomington, MN, Azrielle Johnson, Snoqualmie, WA and Dawnelle Johnson, Proctor, MN; one great-granddaughter, Audrey Zavodnik, Proctor, MN; five brothers, Floyd and Vernon Johnson, both of Esko, MN, Kenneth (Margaret) Johnson, Hermantown, MN, Ervin Johnson, Beaver Bay, MN and Marvin (Martha) Johnson, Saginaw, MN; one sister, Ivadell Johnson, Duluth, MN; many nieces and nephews; her longtime companion, Richard Ledin, Superior, WI and his sons, Rick (Jo Jo) Ledin, Grand Rapids, MN and Scott (Renee) Ledin, Coon Rapids, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Nick Maki and brother Dalbert Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior.
Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM and continue until the 3:00 PM funeral service with Pastor Carolyn Mowchan of Faith Lutheran Church, Duluth officiating.
Burial will be in Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Maple, WI.
