Lawrence I. “Larry” Buchanan, 96, lifelong resident of Superior, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by his daughters, at Twin Ports Health in Superior. He was born in Superior on September 10, 1927, the son of Onni Iver and Taimi (Tahtinen) Buchanan.
Larry was a United States Army Veteran and worked as a Teamsters Union truck driver for most of his life, working for Sweeney’s and Rueben Johnson. Larry and his late wife Janice, also owned and operated Pine Point Lodge on Eagle Lake in Iron River, WI for many years.
In his free time, Larry loved to go fishing and tinkering with small engines in his home workshop. He also enjoyed the occasional trips to the casino to try his luck.
Above all, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed by his daughters Gerri (Rex) Bruner, Terri (Donovan) Gustafson, and Tracy (Michael) Burr; grandchildren Sandi (James) Colborn, David Buchanan, Andy (Tiffany) Babcock, Michelle (Efrem) Natale, Anthony (Kelly Luiten) Babcock, Richard Garner, Glenn (Alyssa) Burr, Donovan Gustafson, and Casey Gustafson; 19 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Janice; son Tim Buchanan; grandson Justin Buchanan; brothers Ken and Leslie Buchanan; sisters Evelyn Buchanan and Alice Rappley; and his parents.
Services will be held at Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 E. 5th Street in Superior, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, with Visitation at 10:30 AM and Celebration of Life at 11:30 AM. Family invites everyone to stay for refreshments following the service.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at 1:30 PM. Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
