Lawrence “Buzz” Noonan, 88, lifelong Superior resident died peacefully, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on December 16, 1922 in Superior to Jerry and Florence (Lobb) Noonan.
He graduated from the former Superior East High School in 1941. He served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II and served with the Swoozie Group Bomber Squadron.
Buzz married Sally Ann Johnson on January 29, 1952 in Superior and they recently celebrated fifty-nine years of marriage.
He was employed as a carman for the Chicago Northwestern Railway for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the former Itasca Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Carmen’s Union.
In addition to his wife Sally, Buzz is survived by two sons, Gerald (Denise) Noonan, South Range, WI, Robert (Coral) Noonan, Superior; two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Prokop, Superior, Ruth (Mike) Sallee, Superior; one sister, Donna (Charlie) Fink, Solon Springs, WI; eight grandchildren, Eric (Suzy Arvidson) Noonan, Geralyn
( Kevin Moris) Noonan, Kristine Noonan, Jacob Noonan, Carlee Noonan, Brian Prokop, Brenda (Brandon Sande) Prokop and Terry (Amanda) Britton; two great-granddaughters, Geena Noonan and Mayzie Britton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Tim Noonan, four brothers, Gerald, John, Harry and William Noonan; four sisters, Dorothy Mahoney, Corrine McDonald, Marian Van Overmeiren and Beatrice Sislo.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM until the 11:30 AM Funeral Service on Monday, June 20, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Blood, of Pioneer Parish and Rev. H. Duane Aslyn, co-officiating.
Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
