Lenus M. Olson, 87, longtime Superior area resident, formerly of Arnegard, North Dakota, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Mary’s Essentia Health Hospice, Superior, Wisconsin.
He was born on February 19, 1924 in Tacoma, Washington the son of John and Minnie (Mikkelson) Olson.
Lenus served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class in the American, European and Asian Theatres.
Lenus was employed by Globe Elevator in Superior as an assistant Superintendent.
He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church; A lifelong member of the Henry S. Blomberg VFW Post # 847; and a member of the American Legion.
Lenus is survived by one stepson, Glenn Fisketjon, Greely Colorado; one stepdaughter, Ellamae (Nick) Pasternak, Grenora, North Dakota; two step daughters-in-law, Geraldine Sabin and Helen Fisketjon, both of Superior; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; his parents, John and Minnie Olson; one brother; one sister; four children; one niece and one nephew.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home, 1209 East 5th Street, Superior.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne, Wisconsin with Pastor Sarah Kerkes of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I Bong, American Legion Post # 435 Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank St. Mary’s Essentia Health Hospice, Superior and the nursing staff for the care they gave Lenus during his stay there.
