Leo Johnson, 89, lifelong Superior resident, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 31, 1926 in Superior to Leo W. and Dorothy (Peterson) Johnson.
Leo served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He was a lifelong employee of the Burlington Northern Railroad as an engineer.
He married his wife Lorraine on November 26, 1949 and celebrated 63 years of marriage before she passed away on September 10, 2013.
Leo was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Belgium Club. He loved playing golf and watching the Green Bay Packers. He loved his cars and loved watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and events.
He is survived by one daughter, Roberta (Buzz) Ronchi, Poplar, WI; three grandchildren, David (Stephanie) Ronchi, Matthew (Amy) Ronchi and Kelley Ronchi; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Nolan, Hayden, Bryce, Ella, Colton and Abby and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Lorraine, Leo was preceded in death by his son David in 1978; his parents and three sisters, Lorraine Brown, Dorothy Johnson and Marian Johnson.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass on Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Superior, with Rev. Fr. Adam Laski, as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Leo’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
