Leona J Huppert

Leona J. Huppert, 89, Superior, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN.

She was born May 5, 1922 in Superior to Adolph and Alida (VanVynect) VanHornweder.

She was a resident in South Range, WI for fifty-nine years.

Leona is survived by a son, Ron (Snooky) Huppert, South Range, WI; a daughter, Jennifer (Tom) Indykiewicz, Otsego, MN; six grandchildren, Chris (Janelle) Graves, Katie Johnston, Alida and Shannon Huppert, Chelsey Klasnich and Brandon Indykiewicz; six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert in 2003; her parents; two brothers, Art and Emil VanHornweder and two sisters, Violet and Clara Matiski.

Leona loved playing bingo and cards with her friends.

In 1941 she was the Douglas County Milking Champion.

She was employed at the taco plant in Poplar, at Jeno’s In Superior and a factory in River Falls, WI.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday, September 16, 2011 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with a Vigil Service scheduled for 6:30 PM.

Visitation will continue at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Superior with Rev. Fr. Don Kania, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery

Pallbearers for the service will be Skip Bodendorfer, Todd Huppert, David Johnson, Jack Johnstad, Nick Kaufman and Rodney VanHornweder.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Graves, Alida Huppert, Shannon Huppert, Brandon Indykiewicz, Katie Johnston and Chelsey Klasnich.
