Leona M. Moreland

Leona M. Moreland, 89, longtime Lake Nebagamon resident, died peacefully, January 31, 2020, surrounded by family at Villa Marina Health Center. She was born in Duluth, MN, June 8, 1930 to Lloyd and Ann (Larsen) Wedan.

Leona worked at Middle River Health Care Facility as a nurse’s aide, retiring after twenty-five years of service. She married Donald “Pat” Moreland, September 11, 1950, and they celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage before her passing.

Leona is survived by her beloved husband, Pat; four daughters, Patricia Pearson, Superior, WI, Karen (Bob) Coleman, Poplar, WI, Mary (Tim) Ries, Pittsburgh, PA, and Shari (Keith) Olson, Brule, WI; five sons, Keith (Nancy) Moreland, Brule, WI, Scott (Peggy) Moreland, of Lake Nebagamon and FL; Bear (Patty) Moreland, Lake Nebagamon, WI, Rick Moreland, Brule, WI, and Donnie (Lauri) Moreland, Ashland, WI; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Paul (Dode) Wedan; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Dale, Duane, and Mert Wedan; and son-in-law, Calvin Pearson.

Per Leona’s request, private family services were held in Superior.

Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery in Poplar, WI, at a later date.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the staff at Villa Marina, for their exceptional care they provided Leona. A special thanks to Emily, who was never too busy to talk with family, and to Andrea, who became an additional granddaughter to Leona.
