The heavens received Leonard "Lenny" Eugene Sanford on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 due to complications from Pancreatic Cancer.
Lenny was born on April 30, 1955 in Cheyenne, WY to Bernice Sanford and the late Delbert Sanford.
He moved to Superior in 1961, where he's resided since, and retired this past January from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
Lenny was an integral part of the AA family, remaining humble after 23 years of sobriety. He loved his early morning fishing on the Nemadji River, winning (!) at Scrabble, the complexity of difficult crossword puzzles, and was always the first to start scrubbing dishes at family events.
Lenny is survived by his wife Koralee "Kori" (Solheim) Sanford and his dog Sweety; mother, Bernice Sanford; stepdaughters, Lynne and Fawn Lowney; two grandchildren, Nathan and Samuel Hoff; mother-in-law Judy Erickson; sisters, April (Keith) Dannehold , Christy (Paul) Kadue and Patricia (Keith) DeWitt; brothers, Delbert (Linda) Sanford, Neil Sanford and Martin (Ruth) Sanford; in-laws, Ken Solheim, Karl (Esther) Solheim, Kimberlee (Dale) Mitchell, Krystal (Michael) Tarolli, Kathryn (John) Solheim, and Kery Solheim; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends of Bill W.
Visitation will be at Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 between 10:02 AM and 11:56 AM followed by a Celebration of Life at Aces on 29th located at 2827 Oakes Avenue in Superior. The celebration will conclude with a release of 57 lanterns at 2:16 PM.
