Leroy W. Lepasti

Leroy William Lepasti, 85, of Poplar, WI, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at his home following a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson’s surrounded by his family. Leroy was born on August 23, 1932 in Marengo, WI to William and Flora (Sukanen) Lepasti.

He graduated in 1950 from Ashland High School in Ashland, WI. Leroy served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home from the service he went to County Normal School in Ashland and then to the University of Wisconsin-Superior and obtained his Masters Degree in Education. Leroy retired in 1988 from the School District of Maple, WI after twenty-nine years of teaching sciences and coaching track and cross country.

Leroy married Janis Lundberg on August 6, 1960and they celebrated fifty-seven years of marriage. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing the Brule River and trolling for walleyes with his sons. Leroy was a member of the Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, WI, the American Legion, Gideon’s and the Lion’s Club.

Leroy is survived by his wife, Janis; three sons, Vince (Mi Yong), Kevin (Christine) and Randy (Yolanda) Lepasti; eight grandchildren, Denika (Percy) Espinoza, Brandon (Sara) Lepasti, Natasha (Christopher) Holguin, Bryan Lepasti, Fernie and Alex Vasquez and Randy and Angie Lepasti and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Flora, brother Roland and son Brian.

Leroy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to St. Luke’s Hospice Care, nurses Debbie and Sharon and aide Val for the wonderful loving care they offered him during his illness and became a part of our family.

A Time of Remembrance will begin at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Mission Covenant Church in Poplar, WI and continue until the 11:00 AM Celebration of  Life Service with Pastor Darrell Nelson officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard. Burial will take place at a later date in Poplar Cemetery in Poplar, WI.
