LeRoy “Roy” Carl Eliason, 91, of Superior passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016. LeRoy was born on December 24, 1924 in Superior, WI and was a “Billings Parker”. He attended Cooper School and the former Central High School. During World War II, LeRoy served in the United States Army with the 11th Airborne as a paratrooper in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines in which he earned the Purple Heart.
In 1949, Roy married Betty Sorenson and recently celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison earning his Pharmacy degree. He was a lifelong Wisconsin Badgers fan.
Roy and Betty owned and operated the Ideal Drug Store on 5th and Ogden and later Peoples Drug until their retirement. They enjoyed many years of wintering in Mesa, AZ and summers on Lake Minnesuing.
LeRoy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon, WI and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Superior, WI. He also was a member of the Masons, Shriners, DAV, Elks Lodge and the Wisconsin Alumni Association.
He was an avid reader, golfer and enjoyed many miles on his bike as well as running marathons in which he completed seven.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ada who immigrated from Sweden. He was proud of this Swedish heritage.
Roy is survived by his wife, Betty; one sister, Harriet Allen; four children, Irene Eliason, Edina, MN, Jeff (Patricia) Eliason, Superior, WI, Becky (Terry) Jablonski, Nokomis, FL and Joe (Catharine) Eliason, Superior, WI as well as six grandchildren, Jessica, Kristen, J.D., Lane, Melissa and Joey; one great-grandchild, Caden; two nieces and one nephew.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers especially, Miller-Dwan ICU, Twin Ports VA Clinic, Encompass Assisted Living, Superior Rehab and Dove Home Care who took such wonderful care of Roy.
He was loved and will be greatly missed.
Per his request, there will be no public services, but a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
