Leroy J. Schier, 63, longtime Superior resident died peacefully surrounded by friends and family who loved him very much on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Essentia Health-Miller Dwan in Duluth, MN following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Rockford, IL, July 21, 1958, the son of Leo “Skip” and Joyce (Thompson) Schier.
Leroy worked in maintenance at Ferrell Gas in Superior for many years. He enjoyed fishing and was a huge Minnesota Viking’s and Nascar fan, and he loved playing “Trouble” with his girlfriend, Dolly. Leroy was a member of the pit crew for local stock car driver and good friend, Darrell Carlson. Being a part of the 2003 Red Clay Classic winning team in the Modified division, a local crown jewel event held at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI, was something Leroy and the rest of the crew cherished and celebrated together regularly.
Leroy is survived by his sisters, Terry (Dave) Lambert, Superior, WI, Michelle Kahler, Rockford, IL, and Tamara Grandlund, Superior, WI; brother, Lyle (Debbie) Schier, of Oregon; several nieces and nephews; longtime significant other, Gladys “Dolly” Sorchych; his faithful canine companions, Betsy Boo and Boo; and aunts, Lois (Len) Gehl, Ruth Lawrence, Joanne Lassek, Delores “Dee” Thompson; uncle, Ralph Thompson; and special friends, Jim and Harriet Bernard.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Susan Lorraine Szewcik; brothers, Leo Andrew, and Larry Dale Schier; and his parents.
A Celebration of Leroy’s Life and Time of Remembrance will be held from 12:30-3:00 PM, Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Log Cabin, 2821 County Road E, South Range, WI.
