Lewis C. Flagstad, 93, longtime Superior resident died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Villa Marina Health & Rehabilitation, Superior, WI surrounded by family.
He was born on February 9, 1924 in Superior, WI, the son of Lewis B. and Mildred (Anderson) Flagstad.
Lewis served his country honorably in the United States Army Airforce. During World War II he served in the European Theatre, stationed in England as a tail gunner in a B-24.
He was employed with the Great Northern Burlington Railroad as a clerk, retiring after forty-two years of service.
He was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church. His other memberships include, the Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks, where he served as the local chairman and vice general chairman, the Nemadji Men’s Club, Superior Elks Lodge #403, he was a life member of the V.F.W. Blomberg and Bong posts.
Lewis is survived by his two sons, Tom (Megan) Flagstad, Duluth, MN and Steve (Melissa) Flagstad, Superior, WI; nine grandchildren, Leah (Adam) Zubich, Beth Baur, Renee Nygard, Caleb Flagstad, Ashley Stone, Kestra and Lily Anderson, Amy (Joe) Chybowski and Eric (Sara) Flagstad; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Ruby, Lily, Julianne, Lucy and Nora; brother, Arnie Flagstad and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey in 2016; parents and two sisters, Patricia Genovees and Delores Senn.
Visitation with begin at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 24, 2017 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior, and will continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
Lew’s grandchildren will be recognized as honorary pallbearers.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Lewis’ name to the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, 305 East Second Street, Superior, WI or the Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Avenue, Superior, WI.
