Lila A. White, 80, Superior, died peacefully Friday, January 24, 2014 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN, surrounded by her family.
She was born on May 22, 1933 in Radisson, WI, to Nels L. and Alma V. (Pearson) Hjelm.
Lila married James White on December 27, 1952 in Winter, WI, and recently celebrated sixty-one years of marriage.
They moved to Superior in 1977.
For many years, she was a member of the Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church where she volunteered in various capacities, and is now a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
She also attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church while in Radisson.
Lila was a creative cook, and enjoyed gardening, reading, berry picking, crossword puzzles and bowling.
With her inquisitive nature, she was always learning something new.
She cared for her aging parents at the family farm that she loved in Radisson, where she was raised.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband James, Lila is survived by seven children, Mary (Joseph) Hartl, Mokena, IL, James (Lynn) White, Greenville, WI, Terese (Steven) Stauss, Stevens Point, WI, Timothy (Peggy) White, Duluth, MN, Thomas White, Superior, Jean White, Wausau, WI, Kathy White, Superior; twelve grandchildren, Alex Hartl, Jessica Hartl Majcher, Matthew Hartl, Michelle Miller, Chad White, Marlena White-Scheler, Leah White, Tim Abicht, Benjamin Anderson, Cortney Duffy, Gaelynn Tressler, Gregory White; eight great-grandchildren, Cole, Kyan, Kira, Naomi, Liam, Elijah, Sullivan and Gabriel and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son Daniel; her parents and a brother, Nels “Lee” Hjelm.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014 in the Lenroot-Maetzold Funeral Home with a Scripture Service scheduled for 6:30 PM that evening.
Visitation will continue at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 until the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski, as celebrant.
Pallbearers for the service will be Lila’s grandchildren.
Burial will be in Radisson, Wisconsin at a later date.
