Lori Beth Laible Coulson of Superior passed away suddenly on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis while waiting for a lung transplant due to complications related to Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Lori was born in Duluth, Minnesota on October 17, 1959 to parents, Charles and Eleanor Laible. Lori was raised and attended schools in Superior. After graduating from Superior Senior High School in 1978 she attended college at the University of Wisconsin, Superior. She married Brian Coulson and they raised three wonderful children together. Lori worked in Special Education for the Superior School District for many years. She loved working with children and made special connections with each one. Her passion for teaching was apparent by making everyone she came in contact with feel listened to, important, valued and of course, special.
Lori was sincere, genuine and she truly cherished her relationships. Lori possessed a gift like no other when it came to words of expression. She was able to translate some of the most beautiful heartfelt emotions and convey them into words. No matter the occasion, Lori could create, relate, and apply those words into most any situation. We fondly referred to her as “Mrs. Hallmark.” Lori was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the garden, especially with her mom, Ellie. She had a keen eye for decorating, repurposing and crafting. We all enjoy her talented creations and the happy memories they represent.
Lori assumed many roles in life as a dedicated daughter, cherished sister and trusted aunt. But without a doubt, her most proud and accomplished roles were those of an extremely loving “Mom” and “Nana”.
Lori is survived by her children, Ryan Coulson of Eagan, MN, Shannon (Brent) Stuart of Woodbury, MN, and Bob (Jane) Coulson of Bloomington, MN; her mother, Ellie Laible Skelton of Superior, WI; her siblings, Judy (Tom) Quick, Bill Laible, Brad (Annie) Laible each of Superior, WI; her nieces Olivia Laible and Allie Quick; nephews Brett Laible and Andy Quick; her grandchildren Peyton and Hadley Stuart and Callie, Laina and Nolan Coulson.
Lori is preceded in death by her father, Charles Laible, and her stepfather, Stanley Skelton.
