Louis Joseph Horvat

Louis “Joe” Joseph Horvat, 76, resident of Augustana Care Center in Moose Lake, MN, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, October, 29, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Moose Lake. He was born on January 15, 1940, in East St. Louis, Illinois to George S. and Laura (Little) Horvat.

Joe was employed by Earth Wise Sheltered Workshop in Troy, Missouri for over thirty years.

Joe was an active member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he also served as an usher and greeter. Joe was a member of the Special Olympics for over thirty-five years, and a 4 th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe was an avid sports participant and enjoyed playing basketball, track, bowling and softball.   He was also a huge Redbird fan for the St. Louis Cardinals, and was elected King Valentine at Augustana Care Center.

Joe is survived by one aunt, Helen Little, Cape Girardeau, Missouri; sister-in-law, Judy Horvat, Moose Lake, MN; nieces and nephews, Theresa (Gerald) Carr, Duluth, MN; Michael (Deanna) Horvat, Thornton, CO; Christine (Steven) Wipson, Moose Lake, MN; William “Bill” Horvat, Moose Lake, MN; Michelle Horvat, Moose Lake, MN; Anne (Nathaniel) Welte, Perham, MN; and Stephen (Elizabeth) Horvat, Hamden, CT;  great nieces and nephews, Julia, Clare, John and Dominic Carr, Abbey Saralampi, Susan Horvat, Bryan Horvat, Daniel Horvat, Blake Horvat, Sydney and Grace Wipson, and Emily and Alex Welte.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Laura Horvat; one brother, George Horvat; one sister, Marian Gill; two nieces, Shari and Cindy Horvat and one nephew, Kevin Horvat.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, 1111 Belknap Street, Superior and will continue until the 12:00 Noon Memorial Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the givers Local Chapter of Special Olympics.
