Louise J. Manion

Louise Jane Manion, 93, of Superior, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. She was born on May 24, 1925, the youngest and beloved only daughter of Ralph and Ollie King in Wendell, ID.

Louise was a graduate of Wendell, Idaho High School in 1943, met Gayle Manion at the University of Idaho, Moscow and they married on June 30, 1946, celebrating 68 years of marriage before his passing in 2014. Louise graduated from the University of Idaho in 1947 and earned her master’s degree in counseling in 1966 from UW-Superior. She taught 5 th grade in Romulus, Michigan, 9 th grade English at Central Jr. High and was a guidance counselor at East Jr. High and Superior Senior High School.

Louise was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women serving in various leadership positions. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter AD-BG, and the Superior Area Retired Teachers Association. Following her retirement, Louise and Gayle spent winters in Florida, Hawaii and New Zealand. She and Gayle enjoyed a second home in Lake Nebagamon, WI. She belonged to bridge clubs, “Over the Hill Golf Club”, was a beautiful quilter and loved knitting for her family. She had a passion for reading that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gayle Manion, sons-in-law Steven Huhta and Steve Bick, brothers Russell, Nelson, Clair, Kenneth, Wesley and Howard King and numerous nieces and nephews.

Louise is survived by her three daughters, Mary Manion-Bick, Patty (Tom) Huhta Bartholomew, Bonnie (Chip) Leland; seven grandchildren, Katie (Chris) Molitor, Ryan (Ruby) Bick, Carmen (Owen) Mulhern, Charis (Darren) Sweeney, Eric (Abbey) Leland, Jonathan (Heather) Leland and Hannah (Keegan) Ilenda; fourteen great-grandchildren, Meg, Samantha, Luka, Logan, Keller, Finley, Addison, Campbell, Sahara, Luke, Hazel, Eloise, Grace and baby Ilenda; and special friend Lorrie Hutchinson.

Louise’s family would like to thank New Perspective Twin Ports, Villa Marina and Essentia Health Hospice for the love and care they gave her.

Memorial gifts may be given to Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue, Superior, WI; UW-S Foundation - Dr. O. Gayle and Louise Manion Scholarship, P.O. Box 2000, Superior, WI; or the School District of Superior Scholarship Foundation, 3025 Tower Avenue, Superior, WI.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Faith United Methodist Church, 1531 Hughitt Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM funeral service with Pastor Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior.
