Lowell C. Jensen, 90, longtime Superior resident, formerly of Fisher Avenue, died on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center in Superior.
He was born on March 31, 1923 in Dorchester, WI to Sylvester and Esther (Copeland) Jensen. He grew up in Abbottsford, WI and was a Superior resident for most of his life.
Lowell graduated from Abbottsford High School. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran of World War II.
He was employed as a truck driver for Cutler, LaLiberty, McDougal & Ruan Trucking Company retiring in the early 1980s.
He married Laura Matson on April 17, 1944 and celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage before her passing in July of 2011.
Lowell was a member of The Salvation Army, founding member of Ambridge Gun Club and former member of the Teamsters Union.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a passionate Green Bay Packer fan, an avid outdoorsman, and most of all; he loved his family and enjoyed taking them on family camping trips.
Lowell is survived by his children, Sandy (Doug) Ustice, Palm Desert, CA, Lowell “Butch” (Frances) Jensen, Mountain Iron, MN, Leo (Carolyn) Jensen, Superior, WI, Susan (Larry Nehring) Gerber, Babbitt, MN and Dawn (Brian) Stelmaszewski, Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Tracy, Margaret, Matthew, Sarah, Christopher, Adam, Brian, Robin, Samantha, Tesa and Jolynn; many great-grandchildren;three nieces, Major Rosemary Matson, Mary (Robert) Renquist and Carla Bell and many nephews; siblings, Dan Jensen, Superior, WI and Betty Neave, Syracuse, NY.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Laura, granddaughter Amy Gerber and great-grandson Robert Leo Salmela.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at The Salvation Army, 916 Hughitt Avenue, Superior and continue until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service with Major Rosemary Matson officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
Military Honors will be accorded by Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435 Honor Guard.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in Lowell's name to The Salvation Army.
