Luanne Hunter

October 21, 1937 — May 5, 2025

Luanne Hunter, 87, longtime Lake Nebagamon resident, passed away on May 5, 2025. She was born October 21, 1937, the daughter of Stanley C. and Dorothy M. (Armitage) Howenstine in Superior, WI.

Luanne graduated from East High School in Superior and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She continued her education by acquiring a master’s degree in education from UW-Superior.  She worked as a medical technician for 30 years at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN.  St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Superior was her chosen place of worship.

In 1955, Luanne and Gordon Hunter were wed in Superior, WI. They shared 63 years together until his passing in 2019.

Luanne enjoyed downhill skiing, spending many hours at Spirit Mountain, Mont Du Lac or other hills around the country. She loved to travel and enjoyed heading south in the winter.

Luanne is survived by her son, Paul Hunter & Ren Olson, South Range, MI; daughters Lydelle (Donn) Bergquist, Lake Nebagamon, WI and Arlyn (Greg Sislo) Hunter-Jensen, Superior;  Grandchildren, Matthew (Shannon) Jensen, Ham Lake, MN, Heath (Elyse) Jensen, St. Paul, MN, Laura (Erik) Hokeness, Forest Lake, MN, Phillip Hunter, New Glarus, WI;  Great-grandchildren, Alison Jensen, Emily Jensen, Andrew Jensen, Britta Hokeness, Rory Hokeness, Theodore ‘Teddy” Jensen, Chester Jensen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Gordon; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Jensen.

A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery in Superior. No public service is planned.
