Lucille "Lou" Joy Liabraaten

Lucille “Lou” Joy LiaBraaten, 88, Superior resident, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice, Duluth.

She was born on November 4, 1921 in Fosston, MN to A. Clarence and Mabel Kathryn (Anderson) Lee.

She married Orville “Orlo” LiaBraaten on September 1, 1944 and celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.

Lucille graduated from Fosston High School and was homecoming queen and valedictorian. She received her Educational degree at Bemidji State Teachers College and was an Elementary Educator in California for a brief period of time. Her greatest love in life was being a wife, mother of the 7 J’s, grandmother and a homemaker. She also earned the title of Minnesota Mother of the Year award in 1983.

Lucille was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Superior and Virginia, MN, the Sons of Norway and the 4 H Club.

She is survived by her husband Orlo; children, Jim (Linda) LiaBraaten, Bellevue, NE, Jack (Connie) LiaBraaten, Hermantown, MN, Judy (Ron) Strasburg, Superior, WI, Joel LiaBraaten, Bend, OR, Jerry (Renee) LiaBraaten, Lincolnville, ME, Joy (Joel) Johnson, Superior, WI, Jeffrey (Tom) Hufford, Annandale, VA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ordelle (Robert) Bammert, Olympia, WA and several nieces and nephews.

Lucille is preceded in death by a sister, Nelda Gunderson and a brother, Chester Lee.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2010 at 2:00 PM in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Avenue, Superior with Pastor Sarah Larsen officiating.

Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Lucille’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be recognized as pallbearers.

The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
